A ‘Blue Plaque’ celebrating John Smith, Scotland’s most ingenious clockmaker, has been unveiled at 19 High Street, Pittenweem. Toby and Kate Anstruther of Balcaskie did the honours and speaches were given by David Jones, furniture historian, and Eric Young, clockmaker. Two of John Smith’s longcase clocks were brought along to the house next door to the workshop where they were made.

The library trustees would like to thank David Millar, Tony Lodge, Martin Gorrie, Hazel Mills, the donors and many others for all the help they gave in the research and preparation for the commisision and installation of this plaque remembering an important part of Pittenweem’s history.
