This is a recommendation for all the readers of the crime fiction series written by Elly Griffiths, Martin Walker and Marion Todd who are wondering who to move on to next.
Author Aline Templeton was brought up in Anstruther, where her father was rector of Waid Academy. Her sister was the wife of Alasdair Kennedy, GP in Pittenweem for most of his working life.
Unfortunately, or perhaps fortunately, she does not do for Scotland what Martin Walker does for the tourist industry of the Dordogne. I am about to read the sixth in her latest series featuring Kelso Strang and Police Scotland. Each book focuses on a murder in a particular region of Scotland, for example the first one is Death on Skye, and a special unit led by Kelso Strang is sent to investigate. Having lived through the last dreary wet winter does make some sense of the horrendous weather to be found in every region covered in her books but it certainly doesn’t make anywhere appear particularly appealing. Her plot lines are good though, the lives of Kelso Strang and his sidekick Livvy Murray provide some lighter entertainment and the insights into the workings and financial constraints of Police Scotland are interesting.
Aline has also written another series of nine books based on the life and work of policewoman Marjory Fleming, married to a Galloway farmer.
Enjoy!
