Our latest display in the library will show you what people were reading in 1952! That was the year of Hemingway’s The Old Man and the Sea, Beckett’s Waiting for Godot and Doris Lessing’s Martha Quest. E B White’s children’s classic Charlotte’s Web has never been out of print, and 1952 was also the year of C S Lewis, The Voyage of the Dawn Treader and Enid Blyton’s Five Have a Wonderful Time. There were some notable films too – Singin’ in the Rain for one, and if anyone could lend us a copy of High Noon and Hitchcock’s The Birds we’d be happy to add them to our display!
